Vertical (small) x-ray tomograph of full-size cores

The Geotek VXCT system is designed to produce both two-dimensional radiographs and three-dimensional tomograms of the core and its sections, if they can be stabilized.

Created specifically for the cores research

The location of the x-ray source and receiver is adjustable to achieve better image quality and resolution when scanning cores of different diameters. Special holders center and securely hold the solid core, and this innovation allows you to install even heavy samples quickly and correctly. The maximum size of the researching core is 15 cm in diameter and 155 cm in length.

Protected casing

The XCT system is fully enclosed and protected: it meets the requirements of the US and EU, which allow to place this system in an ordinary space without any additional precautions. A light indication informs the user that the system is energized and the protection system ensures that the x-ray source cannot be switched on while the system doors are open.

Automatic or manual control

After loading the core, the system starts the scanning process that is fully automatic: the user only sets the measurement parameters. In addition, the operator can manually control the position of the core to obtain real-time data for self-selection of areas that the user needs to scan.

High-resolution 3D tomography

The XCT system provides high-resolution tomograms (see specific values in the table below). The system is also supplied with specialized software for tomogram reconstruction and viewing of their sections and their primary processing. Tomograms are generated as 16-bit .TIFF files, which ensures their compatibility with almost all other software for processing and analysis of tomograms.

3D data according to 2D: laminography technology Geotek

Geotek introduces a new image analysis technology – laminography. It consists the reconstruction of two-dimensional sections at different depths (normal to the core axis), which is achieved by moving the x-ray source and the x-ray detector. Each section corresponds only to a certain depth of the core, which allows you to find and study its specific features. The speed of obtaining tomograms: minimum time – 30-40 minutes per 100 cm core at a resolution of 150 microns; The speed of obtaining slices in laminography: less than 5 minutes per 100 cm core at a resolution of 70 microns.
